Neuropathologic heterogeneity across the Alzheimer’s disease spectrum

Melissa E. MURRAY
avec le Dr Melissa E. Murray, Associate Professor, Department of Neuroscience Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, USA.
Dr Melissa E. Murray

Alzheimer’s disease is defined by the presence of significant amyloid-β (Aβ) plaque pathology and accumulation of tau in neurofibrillary tangles.
Although accumulation of Aβ plaque pathology follows a stereotypic progression, corticolimbic tangle patterns may diverge providing a neuropathologic substrate to non-amnestic
clinical presentations. Moreover, in addition to Aβ and tau co-existing pathology is commonly observed in the form α-synuclein, TDP-43, and cerebrovascular pathology.

Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, USA

Dr. Murray directs the Translational Neuropathology laboratory in the Department of Neuroscience of the Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, Florida. Her team utilizes multidisciplinary approaches to investigate the neurobiologic heterogeneity of Alzheimer’s disease and the relevance to clinical presentations observed before death. She has published over 200 scientific papers and was a 2020 Recipient of Clarivate’s Web of Science Highly Cited Researcher designation.
